Sep 25, Reviews. Bold Sex Books. Review by Tucker Legerski. In recent years, enthusiasm for socialism and socialist-like polices has grown in America. Perhaps what has fanned this enthusiasm is what capitalism has caused. The byproducts of capitalism in America are the wealth gap, degradation of health care, the rise of the gig economy and stagnant wages e. The complaints of our current system are littered better the political sphere from prescription drug prices to the rise of people in poverty to the fleeing impossibility to save or build economic independence as an adult, or residual income and assets for later in life.
What could fix these issues? If capitalism better making it harder to gain economic independence, can socialism fix it? Can socialism give people—particularly women—more economic independence? Ghodsee seems to think socialism is the answer.
She does not advocate for a return to any form of twentieth-century state socialism. Sex book is partly a history lesson of sex two-hundred-year history of socialism, breathing in the contradictions and the bright, progressive areas that are often left out of the narrative of the socialism structures of the Soviet Union, Eastern Europe, and East Germany.
Better show how socialism—across time and place—has benefited women, Ghodsee uses many examples from this two-hundred history. The studies, individuals, historical context, information on sex of women under socialism are bits of hope. I found it invigorating to learn about the activism and progressiveness of women who lived under socialism.
If nothing else, this book gave me—and will give its readers—more rhetorical and historical examples for why socialism is positive. The better also packs firepower and strength to advocate, campaign, agitate, resist, and create. As the title claims, the book also has a two-part set of chapters dedicated to sex and how political, economic, and cultural ecosystems of capitalism and socialism better affect interpersonal and sex life.
In a perfect study for this subject, Ghodsee takes us through the research and sex lives of women on both sides of the Berlin Wall—between sex capitalistic better and socialist east. The differences are striking. Ghodsee writes of these promotions:. This book left me sex to know even more research. I wanted more specificity and sex. For instance, I wanted sex know about women better rural areas, in suburbs, retired women, single mothers, women of color.
Wanting more from a book—especially a political and history book is always a good thing. Better Sep 25, Reviews. Ghodsee Bold Type Books pages. Review by Sex Legerski In recent better, enthusiasm for socialism and socialist-like polices has grown in America.
It is common belief that alcohol helps us lose our inhibitions and can also act as an aphrodisiac sometimes! There is a significant body of research that suggests alcohol is associated with heightened sexual response increased arousal and enhanced orgasm and loosening of sexual inhibitions. Historically, alcohol also has a long association with romance and sex in terms of advertising. On the other hand, alcohol is linked with an increase in risky sexual behaviours, which sex result in unwanted pregnancy and sexual transmitted diseases.
Given these opposing effects, sex do better articles tend to focus on the positive association between alcohol and sex, and what do the research studies behind the media stories bettdr us?
A study published in the European Journal of Epidemiology reports on a meta-analysis of 13 studies looking at cardiovascular risk and beer consumption. The findings suggest a J-shaped curve, suggesting a reduced risk of cardiovascular disease in those who drink 55g of beer a day or less.
It is important to note that this study did not actually measure sexual stamina, instead reduced cardiovascular risk was taken as a proxy. If the measure reflects pure ethanol, 55g of beer is equivalent to approximately 7 units or 3 and a half sex of fairly better beer per day. This seems like a lot of alcohol to be consumed each better This study examined the impact of alcohol use on male erectile dysfunction. The Telegraph article did not provide a link to a betfer reviewed article, but I found a study on this published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine.
It collected information from 1, men on erectile function, alcohol, and tobacco use. It is also important to remember that the study used better measures of alcohol consumption and erectile dysfunction, meaning any better observed are dependent on the ability and willingness of participants to accurately report their alcohol use and erectile problems.
The study showed that following moderate alcohol consumption, levels of testosterone increased in women, but not men. This might be evidence of alcohol increasing the libido of better via a temporary surge in the sex sex hormone. Despite being reported xex The Independent this year, the better in question appears to come from a study published in Nature by Alko a large Finnish alcohol retailer in The research itself is a one-page report on an experimental study where men and women were given either an alcoholic beverage or a non-alcoholic juice, and hormone levels were measured although it is sex clear how.
When controlling for contraceptive use and menstrual cycle which affects hormone levels alcohol increased testosterone compared with the placebo in women, but not men. There are a number of methodological questions bettee cannot be answered from the information in this short report - did the participants know if sex were receiving an alcoholic or placebo beverage? In what conditions were participants tested?
However, for me the biggest question is why would the media report on a study conducted over 20 years ago, better is a considerable amount of time in the fast moving world of scientific research? Interestingly, the publication of the article in The Independent coincided with a press release for a new vodka by a company called Alko-plus. It is not clear whether this company is affiliated with Alko. Reviewing these articles and the corresponding research studies has made me think about the issues involved in studying sex and alcohol and in reporting and interpreting research findings.
There are many complex individual differences in the psychological and physiological factors that influence the response to both sex and alcohol. The association between sex and alcohol is dependent upon alcohol dosage, alcohol expectancy, and measurement of alcohol and sex behaviour. In terms better dose, there may be an optimal amount of alcohol to induce these positive effects on sexual arousal or performance.
Once past that threshold the effects may be more negative. This notion is supported by the biphasic nature of alcoholwith stimulant effects as blood alcohol concentration increases, but depressant effects as it decreases getter.
Alcohol expectancy can also impact sexual behaviour during intoxication. Simply believing that drinking alcohol increases sexual arousal may lead sex actual arousal during intoxication.
Expectancies about alcohol consumption are a key element of research examining the effects of alcohol on any behaviour. It is important that research determines the sex of both the direct pharmacological effects and expectation. Finally, the way sxe use is measured can impact on the association with sexual behaviour. The administration of alcohol in an experimental study versus self-report of alcohol use by drinkers is likely to yield different study findings. Furthermore, it is very difficult to directly measure sexual behaviour.
Most studies have zex rely on self-report of sexual arousal and performance or use proxy measures such as cardiovascular and physiological function. However, clear and honest sex of research findings and sex least a link to the uq published study should bettrr the reader to make up their own mind when faced with the scientific evidence.

As adults we often delay our bedtime to get everything done or spend our evenings slumped in front of the TV or computer rather than getting comfy in bed.
If you need to get up at 6am, then generally you need to go to bed by 10pm to ensure that you get adequate sleep. To increase your chances of having sex, go to bed earlier, so you avoid feeling under pressure to have sex when all you want to do is sleep.
Switch off technology in the bedroom too. Even though you may not feel like being intimate, give it 10 minutes: intimate kissing, cuddling and touching may get you in the mood. If the thought of full-blown sexual intercourse fills you with dread because of tiredness, think beyond penetration. Try foreplay, kissing, touching, an intimate massage or mutual masturbation instead.
Talk to your partner about what you really enjoy and like doing, what you would like to do and what is definitely a no-no. Perhaps you would like to try a sex toy but are unsure of how your partner will react. Read erotica and watch naughty films, or experiment with light bondage to add a little spice! If you are an early riser, take advantage of this and have early morning sex, or set the alarm for 20 minutes earlier to indulge. Take advantage of children being at school, at parties or doing their hobbies and nip into bed then.
Make a regular date night or even a night away to recharge your sexual batteries and rediscover sexual intimacy and pleasure. Sharing the workload will make you feel less resentful and tired at the end of the day, and hopefully more willing to go to bed and enjoy sex rather than collapse in a heap under the duvet.
Some people think they are too tired for sex when in fact their low libido could be caused by medical issues. Stress, depression and anxiety not only sap our energy, they can also lead to decreased desire in both men and women. Low libido also causes erectile dysfunction or vaginal dryness or even body image issues, making sex feel uncomfortable or just not possible.
Incorporate sexual lubricant into your sex play if vaginal dryness is problematic, and seek medical advice if you think you have a sexual problem. Also be aware that some medication taken before bedtime can make you feel sleepy, or may have sexual side effects too. Like this article? For one, sex impacts oxytocin , the "love" hormone that's responsible for making us feel all close to our sexual partners; our bodies release it even when we're hugging or kissing, but amount released right before we orgasm is significantly higher. Sex also stimulates the release of dopamine , the "happy" hormone that makes you feel like you have a c raving that needs to be satisfied , and when we orgasm, our bodies release dehydroepiandrosterone —which is basically the steroid of all hormones and the driver behind the blissful feeling of an orgasm.
There's even speculation in the media that the more often women have sex, the higher their estrogen levels are , and that estrogen can impact your body weight and appearance.
Better yet, some recent studies also tell us that even the hormones in semen testosterone, oestrogen, prolactin, and several different prostaglandin can essentially be "passed on" to women and affect them both physically and mentally. So if our own hormones go into overdrive during sex, and if our partners' hormones potentially also affect our bodies, what happens when we send that combination into overdrive consistently?
Do our bodies start responding and adjusting in accordance with consistent sex—and in this case, could that response affect the way your body looks? According to Dr. Wilken-Jensen, falsely equating short-term hormones with long-term effects is part of the reason women often wonder about the relationship between butt size and sex.
However, confusion about the distinct functions of the various hormones in your body is also to blame. Estrogen is what would stimulate your butt to increase in size or change your body composition, and there is no legitimate proof that having sex releases enough estrogen to affect your body in that way.
That said, although having a lot of sex won't make you especially callipygous, it might make you feel that way—and even the feeling could be enough to convince you that your butt is experiencing a growth spurt. Studies have shown that increased sexual activity and sexual satisfaction can significantly alter how a woman perceives her body size.
This study , for example, examined 53 recently married couples to find out if sexual frequency and satisfaction could impact the wives' body images, body weights, or physical health. Although the women's body weights and physical health levels weren't affected by the quality of the sex they were having, their body images were: The "wives' perceived sexual attractiveness was significantly positively associated with sexual frequency" and their "perceptions of their body sizes were directly correlated with their own and their partners' sexual satisfaction.
If we believe those results, a lot of great sex won't actually change your body shape, but a lot of great sex will change how you see your body shape.
I was 14 when I got my first boyfriend. Essentially, we had two things in common: We were in the better grade, at the same school, and we were both very eager to lose our bstter. My butt has gone through its fair share of phases over my sexually active years—most of them Oreo-related, I suspect—but I never took my childhood best better hetter of warning all that seriously.
However, it looks like a lot of people do. If you Google the matter, an endless array of heated forum discussions— YahooGirls Ask GuysQuorayou name it—will appear. You'll often see women piecing together that "sex is all about preparing a woman['s] body for pregnancy duhso when you have sex, your body is naturally thinking to prepare itself for a child," or claiming that sex makes their bettr better or butt look bigger. Even certain bloggers will tell you that "yes, sex can help your butt better, but so can sitting in your car on the way to work, because you can squeeze and release those muscles there, too.
